HOW I WORK

I provide a safe and compassionate atmosphere to explore the changes my clients desire without the fear of judgment or ridicule.

We all have patterns created from our past experiences that sometimes produce challenging outcomes.  Therapy is a chance to gain a new perspective and an opportunity to overcome old patterns that no longer work.  Clients will learn that while they can’t control the past or every aspect of the present, they can take control of how they interpret and behave toward the issues that occur in their world.

It is a great privilege to witness clients, each on their own journey, improve communication, trust and intimacy in their relationship, learn to cope with anxiety and depression, adjust to loss and trauma, and live a more fulfilling life.

My theoretical orientation is a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I am Prepare/Enrich certified. I resonate with the work of Drs. John and Julie Gottman in their marriage research.

*Upon the client’s request, I can incorporate a faith-based, biblical approach to therapy.

From a faith-based perspective, I see myself as a tool used by God to help people sort through the chaos and confusion that life often produces, in order to bring clarity in their minds and purpose to their existence.

Life is about relationships. In order to love others, we have to love ourselves. This task begins by understanding who God made us to be, and to identify our calling in this life, and subsequently discover how we will live this task out.

When a person is able to quiet their internal and external worlds, they are able to hear God’s still small voice and choose if and how they want to respond.

A few of my specialties include:

  • Pre-Marital Counseling – laying a foundation to a solid marriage using the Prepare/Enrich Assessment
  • Marriage Therapy – managing conflict and deepening intimacy
  • Post-Marital Therapy – adjusting to your new normal
  • Grief Counseling – coping with the feelings that emerge after a loss
  • Individual Therapy – managing major life challenges, dealing with depression or anxiety, resolving conflict, desiring personal growth and greater self- knowledge
  • Counseling for Ministry Leaders – understanding the unique challenges and the effects on self and family
